What do I do in this first room?
Make sure you LOOK or SEARCH to make sure there aren't any hidden items.
Make sure to check the drawer for items. First you must OPEN the DRAWER. Then you can PICK UP each item individually or TAKE ALL to pick up all of the items. You can LOOK AT MAP to help you navigate if you get lost in the hospital, but only if the map is in your possession.
Your character feels just as disoriented as you do. LOOK IN the MIRROR to get your first plot relevant piece of information.
What am I supposed to do?
Try to find people to talk to and learn more about your situation. Use the SAY button when you are next to a character.
If you go south from your cell, you will find a waist-high door, where you can talk to Dr. Dolan.
If you ask him "what should I do," he will suggest you take a shower. The showers are south of his office.
What should I talk to Dr. Dolan about?
Talking to other characters might reveal new conversation topics.
Specifically, if you talk to Ms. Willard in cell 8.
Talking to Willard reveals that she lost a needle. You can tell Dolan that "the woman in cell 8 needs her needle" or some other equivalent phrasing. But then you will have to convince Dolan to give it to you. There is no single solution to this. Be as convincing as you can (The AI is given of the context of your situation and this persuasion task, so making reference to this is more effective than just sounding persuasive in a general way, if that makes sense.).
He can reveal other useful information as well, including how to get into the morgue, if you ask him, "Can I go to the morgue?"
What do I do in the shower?
Did you remember to find a second set of clothes before showering? They are in the drawer in your cell. If you put on your old set of clothes after showering, you will still smell bad, and other characters will notice.
You must drop all clothing in your inventory in order to shower.
Ken talks to you while you are showering. Make sure to ask him to read your tattoo for you. That will score you a point. He can talk about other topics or just chat with you.
How do I talk to the woman in cell 8?
She is deaf, not mad.
If you TAP HER, you can get attention.
However, this doesn't necessarily mean she will talk to you. You must shower first.
After you shower, you will have to put on a clean set of clothes, or you will still smell.
Where do I find my earring?
Ask everyone you meet about it.
The pasty faced man is the one who knows where it is.
You will have to convince him to tell you. Or if you fail you can...
Ask him what cell he is in. Maybe there are clues in his cell.
Break into his room in cell 2. Look on the table. He left a tome there. Read the tome and he left an important note.
You need the lockpicks to break into his room. Open the matches from your cell to find the lockpicks.
How do I talk to the pasty faced man?
You feel suspicious because he is faking mental illness.
Call him out on it.
Try to SAY, "YOU ARE FAKING IT."
Another solution is to talk to him when you are seriously injured. If you get into a fight with Ken in the shower, and he reduces your Endurance significantly, then you talk to Johnny, Johnny will be so shocked at the sight of you he will break character.
How do I find the needle?
Ask Dr. Dolan about it. You will have to be convincing.
If you fail, you can get into the storage closet in the basement. You will need lockpicks to do that. You will also have to get past the orderly.
In the basement, you can't sneak south at the t-intersection, but you can kill him.
Alternatively, you can talk your way past him.
Or you can get an orderly uniform to sneak past him. You can get this after opening the earring.
South of the t-intersection in the basement, there is the storage closet, but it is locked.
You can pickpocket the silver key from the orderly at the intersection.
You can kill the orderly and take the key from his body.
Or you can pick the lock, if you found the lock picks in the match box.
The needle will not be immediately apparent. Make sure to SEARCH the CLOSET.
How do I open the earring?
The lightning bolt symbol on the earring signifies that you will have to find a source of electricity.
There is an electroshock machine in the basement at the t-intersection. However, you do not know how to operate it. Who can?
You must convince the staff that you have gone seriously mad. To do that you must fail a Rorschach Test.
One way to get a Rorschach test is to ask Dr. Dolan for one.
Another way is to try to talk to a character while you are naked.
A third way is simply to get caught wandering in a restricted area, like the east basement hallway.
Once you get to the Rorschach test, you must give him responses that sound as crazy as possible.
What do I do with the open earring?
Examine it.
What do I do with the piece of paper with dotted lines on it?
Fold it.
Did you remember to ask the shower guy what your back tattoo says?
Fold corner 0, then corner 3, then corner 1, then corner 2.
How do I get into the morgue without the mortician telling on me?
You might simply kill him, but this is highly violent.
You can also sneak past him, if you took the stealth skill.
You can tell him that you would like to pay your respects to the dead.
If you got into the electrotherapy room on the east end of the basement, you can read the logbook in the north closet. This might give you a clue as to who might be deceased.
If you managed to open the earring, this will also tell you who died.
A fourth solution is to get an orderly uniform by either killing the guard at the t-intersection, or picking up the uniform after exploding the electroshock machine. However, you will have to convince the mortician that you are legit. And make sure you aren't holding brown clothes in your inventory. That's a dead giveaway.
How do I talk to Bob and what do I talk about?
Say his name after opening drawer 47 on the south end of the morgue.
The message from the open earring should tell you what to ask him about.
Ask him about the black lodge or "how do I get out of here."
Then ask him about the key to the black lodge.
You can find a cutting tool to cut off his finger, but there might be a simpler solution.
Get the lockpicks, go south at the basement intersection, and break into the clinic. Look on the tray to find a scalpel. Then you can cut his finger off. There is a simpler solution, however.
Biting his finger off is just as good!
How do I leave the asylum?
You could leave out the front entrance. But you have dementia. What good is that going to do?
Talk to Bob to find the real solution. To talk to Bob, you will first have to open the earring.
He tells you to go south from the morgue to enter the underground railroad. You will need a key.
One way to get a key is to help Ms. Willard in cell 8.
You can also steal the key from the mortician, or from Ms. Willard.
You can pick the lock if you have very high lock pick skill.
You will also need a light source to explore the tunnels.
Pick up the matches in your cell. Then light the torch down in the rail tunnels.
Eventually you will come to a chasm if you turn west at the collapsed rail.
Jump off the cliff with Bob's finger key in your possession.
In the black lodge, you might get lost in the curtained hallways. Make sure to LOOK AT CURTAINS for clues.
In the final room, try talking to each of the reflections for clues as to what to do.
"What should I do?" might be a helpful question. Be careful. There are wrong choices here.
You might have noticed certain actions you have taken during the game shifted your alignment. This is the key to determining which mirror is correct. You will have to talk to each reflection about a variety of relevant topics and try to infer its personality. The one that matches you is the one you are supposed to smash.
